How USCIS Fees Work in 2026

USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) charges filing fees for every immigration petition and application. These fees fund USCIS operations, which are almost entirely self-funded through applicant fees rather than congressional appropriations. The fee schedule was last updated in April 2024 and remains in effect for 2026 with key additions from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

What Changed in 2026

  • Visa Integrity Fee (VIF): A new $250 per-person fee applies to most nonimmigrant visa applicants under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
  • Biometrics bundled: The separate $85 biometric services fee is now included in the base filing fee for most forms.
  • Online filing discount: A $50 discount applies when you file eligible forms online at myUSCIS instead of by paper.
  • Asylum Program Fee: Most employer-sponsored I-140 petitions now include an Asylum Program Fee ($600 standard, $300 small employer, $0 nonprofit).

Fee Waiver Eligibility

You may qualify for a fee waiver (Form I-912) if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • Household income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • Currently receiving a means-tested public benefit such as Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), SSI, or TANF
  • Experiencing financial hardship (evaluated case-by-case)

The 2026 income thresholds for fee waiver eligibility are: $22,590/year for 1 person, $30,630 for 2 people, $38,670 for 3, $46,710 for 4, and +$8,040 for each additional person.

How to Pay USCIS Fees

USCIS accepts payment by money order, personal check, cashier's check (payable to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security"), or credit/debit card (Form G-1450) when filing by mail. Online filing through myUSCIS accepts credit cards, debit cards, and bank transfers. Never send cash.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a green card cost in 2026?

The I-485 fee is $1,440 for adults (14+) and $950 for children under 14 filing with a parent. If you also file an I-130 simultaneously, add $675. Concurrent I-765 (EAD) and I-131 (travel document) are often filed together and cost $820 and $630 respectively.

What is the N-400 fee for naturalization?

The N-400 fee is $710 online or $760 by paper. A reduced fee of $380 (paper only) is available for applicants whose household income is at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. You must file Form I-942 to request the reduced fee.

Are biometrics charged separately?

No. The former $85 biometric services fee is now bundled into the base filing fee for most USCIS forms effective April 2024 and continuing in 2026. You will still be scheduled for a biometrics appointment, but there is no additional charge.

Can I get a fee waiver?

Yes. File Form I-912 (Request for Fee Waiver) with your application if you earn ≤150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or receive Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, or TANF. Use our fee waiver eligibility checker to see if you qualify.

What is the Visa Integrity Fee?

The Visa Integrity Fee (VIF) is a $250 per-person surcharge added by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2026. It applies to most nonimmigrant visa applicants and is paid in addition to the standard DS-160 MRV fee when applying at a U.S. consulate abroad.

Does premium processing speed up my H1B?

Yes. Premium Processing (Form I-907) guarantees a decision within 15 business days for an additional $2,805. Without it, H1B processing times can range from 3 to 6 months. Premium processing does not guarantee approval.
